It's a 'sliced digit'. This happens in a counting/rolling machine, and the machine damages the coin on the inside rim area, in this case the last '0'.
Ever see a person crack open a roll of coins on the edge of the cash drawer? And I would say this coin has not seen much circulation since it got sliced.
kewl damage find !! please consider things "irregular" as damage first, then do research on it if any error like that exists.
I have a 1970 D penny that is missing The letter “I” in the sentence “ in God we trust” also in “liberty” the “L” is spaced far from the “I”. (L iberty) and the “y” looks funny also. Lincoln ear looks weird and his chest is real faint? hardly visible. It’s not in the best condition. Still there is no value to this guy? I have a bunch of 1970s and never seen one like this! Not really.. Sounds like a worn die strike with some circulation wear. And you should start your own unique separate thread with pictures.
I found a 1970 d penny with an error "in god we tr" with the "ust" being very faint, with zero edge wear. what should I think of it?
