I acquired this one a few weeks ago. When I slid it out of the paper envelope it is in
I instantly knew I was going to buy it. The reverse still shows some of the old Yellow/straw color on it. And a touch of blue/ purple when in the light just right. I do not mind that to much, because it has that dark spot just below the arrow heads that look like a "beauty mark" and draws your eyes to it.
The obverse has a very nice soft mottled look that kinda makes you want to try a take a bite out of it, but yet is robust and strong all at the same time.

A TPG might not slab that coin.
Their position would be that the dark toning could be hiding an old cleaning.

I once had an 1894 that couldn't get slabbed for that reason although it was darker than yours.

Nice Morgan. I love toners. Speaking of TPGs... I hate how snobbish they are about whether a coin has been cleaned. Not so many years ago cleaning was the thing to do so a lot of old coins were cleaned long before the TPGs started to get their knickers in a knot over cleaned coins.

Did that coin have signs of cleaning such as the "halo effect" that appears around the devices on many cleaned coins?

Just curious. I want to learn more about signs of cleaning.

it feel just as smooth as glass.

“Crusty” means that the coin has a thick, original patina, not an actual “crust”.
