One of my favorite auctioneers in south midstate Pennsylvania is having an auction of about 375 coin lots this Saturday. It is in York, PA right at the junction of Interstate 83 and US Route 30 at to Four Pointes by Sheraton hotel. I will be adding a link to the auction sheet below. There ARE NO PICTURES, there IS NO INTERNET BIDDING (but they take phone bids) and IN MY OPINION, this guy is a very accurate grader. Not 1986 grading, but TODAY grading. Lots of raw, lots of PCGS pieces, some NGC pieces, a few second tier TPG pieces. This auction has a HUGE section of "multiple coins make a single lot" lots. I have no connection with this auction company other than I like his style, his coins, his honesty, and his grading and I want to make him even more the go-to guy for consignments around here than he already is. That way I get to see even MORE high quality material in the future. I have marked about 30 pieces I'm interested in, and no, I will NOT be saying which. Based on their value and my budget for this sale, I'll be done after about 3-5 won lots anyway. Spreading the wealth to mah buds on CT. This post will be without a link for only a short time, then the link will be added. https://www.auctionzip.com/Listings/3158818.html?kwd=coin&zip=17101&category=0 The phone numbers are on the catalog sheet. Get on this guy's mailing list. You won't regret it. A significant portion of my 7070 set came from this guy's sales over the past 8-10 years.
Better offer, if any CTer wants me to, I'll take my Sony camera and my iPad and try to send you snaps from the auction of a coin you want a look at. I'll be arriving about 7AM to look at lots.
Rest assured you will NOT be competing against me for ANY gold or ANY silver dollar. I have targeted ONE half dollar, and everything else is a lower denomination.
"A 10% buyer's premium will be added to the hammer price of all lots paid with cash or check. A 3% surcharge will be added for payment by credit card." So... 13% surcharge if using a credit card? Or 3%? Probably the first, but it is not written in a clear fashion.
You have it right - 13% with card. If you remote bid, you may be able to arrange a 10% method. I bring my budget in cash and leave my ATM card at home.
Sounds like a great auction! I started to sweat when I was reading all of the lincoln cent rolls and the other finer lincolns he had listed. If I have to work that day I might head over there. only about 20 minutes from work.
By the way, if there's a lot you want "live remote bid" on, Mike will call YOU when the lot comes up. He does it for at least several dozen lots per sale. More often than not, remote bidders win lots. The locals are cheap, including me.
I heard that! I have one date of that first run of cents on my list. It's gonna hafta pass the "Bellman thinks it looks naturally red" test first though. Usually a 50/50 proposition, if past is any indicator.
The beard is way longer again after getting cropped for the ANA show in August. If you make it, look for the guy in the shocking red ANA golf shirt with a longish white Circle Beard.
Not by a LONNNNNNNG shot. I'll be among the younger half of the crowd at this sale. That's what keeps the material circulating; guys buy it in their 80's. Actually, most of the buyers are local show circuit dealers. There will be some real steals. I'll post an after the sale report on my hits.
Believe me, I understand NOW the rarity of access to sales like this. I spent most of my adult life considering it "normal".
About 90-100 lots per hour. They don’t mess around. Preparation is key. I am onsite now and I eliminated about 5 of my targets. Not to my liking. But there’s one piece on my list that knocked my eyes out! SERIOUS target! I hope I still have funds left. I won’t just wait for that coin. It’s late in the sale.
