I'm watching the Steelers-Jets game and it went into overtime. They showed a close-up of the coin toss and it was a Morgan dollar (it landed on tails so I couldn't get the date )
Well at least I am not the only one who saw that Morgan Eagle lying there! Actually I couldn't believe my eyes and couldn't help but wonder if that belonged to the referree or if it was supplied by the NFL? Regardless of the date that coin could probably bring a few bucks extra, especially if we had seen the date, after performing for those overtime activities! Couldn't be any better than that---NFL and Morgan dollars! Sure wouldn't want to be the Jet's kicker this evening!
I am a high school football referee and i always carry, and flip, an 1884 O Morgan. It is well worn (g/vg) but every once in a while I'll get a kid who must be a collector who recognizes what I'm flipping. I know a couple of colleagues who flip Ikes, too. It's great fun!
I always thought Morgans exhibited the "ultimate" heads and tails. Also, if you flip a silver dollar, the "ping" sound it makes is very definitive...not like clad coins. Now make the call BEFORE it is in the air...
Darn it all- I missed that! I always watch the coin flips to see if I can tell what kind of coin it is- I would've loved to see that Morgan there! So long as it wasn't an 1895-P (gonna get ya for that one Speedy!)... Rachel PS-- GO COLTS!!!!
