Not a die crack. Looks like the coating was hot and dropped or something. Do not know how the coating goes on. But possibly a die crack before the coating went on.
It looks like a die crack to me, based on the photos. The copper plating goes on the unstuck zinc planchet, so there is no 'die crack before the coating', because the coin wasn't struck before the plating goes on.
That's a Die Crack.. The crack on the Die that struck the blank planchet created that small raised area because the metal flowed into the crack.. Like a mold.
Mary, there's no coating on the coin. It is a die crack and you have to think in reverse as to how the coin is pressed and how this happened.
If I could get $10.00 for every nice die crack I have found I would be a millionaire a long time ago.
