I am new to grading and don't know a lot, and will go ahead and get all my excuses out of the way by saying I don't know a lot about the BN vs RB designation other than it refers to the color of the coin I think.

So having said that I am in at MS65.

RB has to have at least 15% original red for the designation if I’m not mistaken.

I think it’s actually between 5-95% to be RB

It needs 40 percent red to make RB. It was close but didn't get there apparently.

Actually, it only need be 15% at NGC
    PCGS only requires 5% FYI

It brings me much pleasure to correct someone with an IHC avatar:troll:
    (Which is BN btw)

So much for the TPGs lowering their grading standards! The consensus on this coin was 1-2 grades higher than the assigned grade. Ask Doug to grade it, he will say MS62 now that he has seen the grade.

So, any theories on what held it back from GEM?

My theory is that the graders were wrong.

That must be the TPG strategy to drive resubmissions. Give a ridiculously low grade the first time, incentivizing the customer to resubmit.

BTW, how is the luster on the coin. Any chance that is what held it back from a gem grade.

This is the best shot I got of the luster. It is slightly diminished in the lower half of the reverse which is the only thing I can see to keep it out of gem.

...I’ll take 64’s this cool all day, every day. This is one of those coins I really couldn’t care less what the number on the slab is. Thanks again, @C-B-D !
