Could someone show me a side view picture of a coin in a Kointain holder? I just need to know how curved they are. It would be even better if one of you could post pics of different denominations in Kointain capsules viewed from the side.
I can post one tomorrow. My complete Jefferson #1 are all in mountains then in flips with the notes on the tag. They are protective but lite weight, coin has a natural feel in hand.
Oh well I just happen to have that sitting on my desk...I don't use either so I just learned something Thanks. So I guess they won't help
The coin rest on its rims inside the capsule There's a slight raise from the rim to center of coin. It doesn't touch the coins obv. Or rev. Surface areas..
Kointains are very thin....they are just a fraction larger than the coin. They fit snug....the material they are made is very thin you place the rev. On the coin then the obv. Is a tad bit bigger that slides over the rev half, I personally like them....great protection less space needed to store.
Just my two cents, I used kointains on a lot of coins, thinking they were the best way to store them. over I'd say after 7yrs or so, I had a lot of silver coins with black spots appear on the rims, or edges of the coins. I have switched out all remaining coins to air-tites, and hoping this will be my final storage option. After I got the coins into Kointains, I then put some in of them into 2x2's and into albums. Others I put into custom dansco pages (to fit the kointains) and albums. I got the same results in both of the album types. So now they are in air-tites and Caps albums. Last thing, I didn't care for the way the kointains go together. When doing a lot of coins, it was a real pain getting those clamshell pieces to go together, especially with proof coins, which always seem to fit a little tighter, even in air-tites!
I'm switching out ALL my coins from Dansco albums to Caps albums. I haven't had any problem with silver coins, but my Jefferson Nickels are starting to tone in the Danscos. I, too, hope this is the last time I have to make a major storage changeout.
