I ran across a new (to me) TPG called World Coin Grading on eBay (surprise) for an MS-66 Trade Dollar (surprise surprise). Item 250206856045. Check out this same seller's other auction for a WCG MS-65 DMPL 1897-S Morgan dollar. Item 250206895701.

    World Coin Grading's website - www.worldcoingrading.com - states:

Which begs the question - "Why are they called WORLD Coin Grading if they only grade US coins?"

WCG is located in Humble, TX. Their rates are $50 per coin with a 10 coin minimum.

    Their URL registration info states:

    Domain Name: WORLDCOINGRADING.COM
    Created on: 19-Jul-06
    Expires on: 19-Jul-09
    Last Updated on: 18-Dec-07

Has anyone heard of this TPG before?

WCG ranks right up, or should I say down, there with SGS.

A lot of their garbage is seen on Overstock.

I don't think they do any legitimate business. It looks like someone slabbing their own coins (at grades that have nothing to do with the real grades/quality of the actual coins) or perhaps agreeing to do so for others. It is a blatant attempt to rip off the uninformed.

    Wow, nice fees!

Those outrageous fees are likely intentional as they prevent people from actually submitting to them as that is likely not their true area of business.

Agreed. It's not a real grading company and they have no desire to deal with the general public.

Should we pool our money and send in some culls?

    Now that would be interesting.

If they stuck an S onto a 1909 Indian Head cent, they did a good job. I've compared this cent with another authenticated one from the NGC and it looked very close. What makes you think that it was adulterated?

The best self slabber I saw on eBay recently was some outfit out of Minnesota or somewhere, CCGS - Crappy Coin Grading Service. He was making a mockery of the whole grading thing, and had like a 200 point grading scale.

I think I'll start a grading service called CBF (Could be Fake). I will guarantee that the coin could be real or it could be a fake. I will also grade the coin with the stipulation that it might not be correct. It will include a caveat that the coin grading may not necessarily be the opinion of the grader. We wouldn't want any legal challenges or anything messy like that.

WCG has been around for at least 7 years. It was listed in the Slabbook.
