Ok, I just won this like two seconds ago. Its a deffinite Ebay Gamble. What do you guys think??? Think its gonna be a nice S or think I bought a bunch of Junk??? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160197037909
Sweet, best of luck man. Hope it turns out to be the real deal, then if it does, you done good! :thumb: Be sweet if the 09 S is a EF or higher. :thumb: But, I think you'll just be happy if it is real. Phoenix
Im hoping for a nice looking 09S, but Ill just be bappy for a beat up one thats real. If you read the description, the guy calls the 09VDB a VDR and he says it twice so its not a typo. I kinda get the feeling that these are coins he inherited and he has no clue about coins. Ive never seen that type of album before and the guy says its real old a fragile. So Im hoping to find some nice looking coins in the set. But who knows, I guess its like buying a scratch ticket. Ill just have to see what I get, then post some nice clear pics for everyone to see.
It may be a good catch Dan. Looks to me like a Littleton coin folder. They are green like that but probably not very old. If you get a real 09-S you could throw everything else away and still be ahead of the game. One of my local dealers {Brooklyn} has an 09-S that's corroded for $115.00.
I think it's a good gamble and the 09 S should cover you investment. Do you really think he was afraid to take the coins out to look for mint marks? If he didn't know they're all on the front then maybe he was telling the truth that he doesn't know anything about coins. Good luck with them and post some pictures. Bruce
$41 total. Less than a dinner for two at a sit down restaurant, an NBA ticket, or a tank of gas. You get anticipation, fun, a treasure hunt, and maybe a cool coin or two. As long as he ships the coins, you cannot lose in my opinion, but I love buying collections and lots. Good luck! Mike
The folder is an early 60's whitman, collectible and cool with the thumb notch !! Ebay gambles can pay off big !!!!
Well, I talked to the guy, he said he shipped out the coins this morning. I had him take a look at the 09S last night and he said that it is deff an 09S. He said that he inherited the coins from his grandfather. He also said that they used to be in a different folder, but when his grandfather died, his dad put the coins in the new folder and finished some of the collection. Ill just have to see what I get and then post some pictures here for all to see.
I'm sure we all have our own E-bay "war" stories. But I remember trolling one night at 3 a.m. and someone had put a complete set of Jeffersons in some category - it was basically "rummage sale" or such. Anyways, there were no bid, I checked the guys past auctions and it was stuff like lava lamps, elk horn wall hangings, etc. He said the coins came from a local auction.... The pictures showed a really worn album with the nickels. Well, $17 later, I got it in hand and yes, ENTIRE 1938-1962 set of Jeffersons with most of the '50's and '60's being in almost AU shape. Apparently the guy had pulled the nickels out of circulation as they became available. Downside. The earlier coins apparently fell out of there holes, so he or she had put scotch tape over the holes of the coins on the first page. Sorry DJP - I'm rambling. But every once in a while, you get a little bit of treasure!!!!
Ok, The folder came today. And Jack, I can see why these folders are collectors Items, it is a really nice folder. And yup, a GENUINE 1909S Lincoln Wheatie, just what I was hoping for. And its in better shape than I had hoped for. The Obverse is a bit weaker than the reverse, but the reverse has some ink on the coin. But notice the Wheat Stalks on the reverse, almost full wheats. But still the Obverse is a bit weak, so Im not really sure what to grade something like this. Either way, Im more than happy with my Ebay Snipe. Oh and you want to know whats almost better than the 09S???? The 21S is a nice borderling Uncirculated chocolate Brown. Anyhow, let me know what you think and let me what opinions on grade. Also, any ideas why the L in liberty is missing??? Thanks
The lower half of the S looks iffy, too parallel, could you post a crop and enlargement? I tried but it's too fuzzy. Might just be grit/dirt etc, but a better pic would help. It should not be so evenly horizontal, the center and lower loop of the S. Either way, sounds like you got a bargain on an AU 21-S, the rest is free !!
DJP7x0s, Submit the key dates to a TPG service, it is the only way to be 100% of what you have or think you have. Nice find.
Here you go Jack. I just took some new pictures and this is the best Im capable of. Hope this is enough.
I certainly did get a bargain. That 21S is a good looking coin. It looks nice in my set. And Im going through now to see what else I can upgrade of my set. So far Ive upgraded my 1909, 1911, 1912, 1913D, 1917, 1917S, 1920, 1921S, and I havent made it past that. All the coins I just listed are XF, the 21S is a nice AU and the 1920 is MS RB. That one has alot of red showing through. Anyhow, Im very happy with this purchase. How much does an AU 21S and an XF 13D list for??? I know the 1920 isnt worth nothing substantial, but it looks great in my set. Oh and this album, it has a spot for a 1965D Memorial. Its still empty though, I wonder why this guy never found that one, LOL
