here is a picture (i will get a better picture later ) but for now this is a dime from 1893 and i guess it a barber as the obverse looks exactly like a barber ,however the reverse of the coin and this is what the picure is of almost looks like the ny symbol on the yankees baseball hat
The picture isn't showing up. But its probably a "love token". These are coins which have been partly or completely recarved, outside of the mint, usually to show a monogram, as yours.
thanks for quick response here is picture and if anyone knows is this a coin or is it considered a token of some kind and whats it value about ,its in pretty good condition and again thank you everyone
As fuzzy as the pic is, I agree, "IRM" ("MRI," "RIM," etc); likely a love token. Some people collect these. It may have value to those collectors. I can't tell. The pic is too fuzzy and I don't collect them myself.
Yes, it appears to be a love token. Dimes were one of the most commonly used coins for this display of admiration. Fancy carved letters are the most typical style, and they can be readily found on ebay, and even have their own section under exonumia. Nice examples often go in the $20 and slightly upward range. Pictorials can bring much higher prices, often several hundred or more, and larger coins also sell for larger amounts since they are less common. I suggest looking at ebay completed auctions to get a more accurate picture of what they actually sell for. I have a small collection of these, and I watch for nicely done examples. In the time I have spent doing so, I have noticed that most of the host dimes are of the seated Liberty types. I don't know if a Barber would be a plus since there are fewer of them, or a minus since it is "newer", or if it doesn't matter at all. Personally, I don't pay much attention to what the host coin is, since that is not what I buy them for.
