Thanks Gavin..for me also..i collect only bronzes..but not for the highest price..that Vitellius as..came just buy with luck..for only 40 euro!
I just received an email from Dr. Jyrki Muona who has informed me that this Otho was once his. I am very surprised and very happy that he has added this bit of provenance for me and that this coin was once part of such an important collection from an important collector of Coins of Otho.
[Here is my Otho. I got it because I liked the portrait. the reverse is below my usual standards ! OTHO. Head bare r. "IM P M OTHO CAESAR AVG TR P". Great coin @Orfew . I especially like the scale. I do not have an Otho, yet. I do not collect 12 Caesars, but look for 69 AD coins in most auctions. I do have a scale coin from the auction. When the coin arrives, I will have a write-up.
That is a fabulous coin! Congrats. Both the obverse and the reverse are amazing. As for my Otho, yes, I really liked the scale too.
The scale (balance) on your Republican coin is wonderful! I look forward to the writeup. Any AEQVITAS can have a crude balance: Philip I, 244-249. Struck 244-5 at Antioch. 21 mm. 3.86 grams. AEQVITAS AVG RIC 27b variety of note on page 71 (AVG, not AVGG). But your Republican balance has a nice stand and good detail!
Great OP coin, @Orfew! Congrats! My only one, that I already posted here in CT: AR Denarius - Rome mint- 69 AD. Obv: IMP M OTHO CAESAR AVG TRP Rev: PAX ORBIS TERRARVM RIC I 4, rare.
I received the coin today and I love it. The strike is quite good. I really like the details on the face and the reverse is great. Here is a new photo. Click on the photo for an enlargement.
Congrats Andrew! Nice coin, and a great feeling having it in-hand. RI Otho 69 CE BI AR Tet 23mm Egypt Helmeted Roma Emmet 186
