I think that all may not be well at NN and Krause Land. It used to be a subscription was 52 printed issues. Then it went to 40 printed and 12 digital issues. I just got my renewal form and it's down to 32 printed issues with occasional special digital issues. I have not received a digital issue since last December and my sub was paid for 3 years. No notice was sent out about this change or anything mentioned about extending subs to compensate for the missing issues. Also no longer receiving updates. It appears they are struggling and may not be long for this world. I have yet to write Dave Harper about this. Anyone here hear anything on this or notice these changes?
I'm not familiar with NN but I know CW has gone downhill over the years. Back in the 1970's it used to be weekly newspaper tabloid size and in excess of 100 pages.
I would say it has to do more with how people communicate in the hobby than the health of the hobby overall. Same as newspapers, most are struggling mightily to adapt to modern internet based society.
Krause Publications go out of business? They got more 'irons in the fire' than there are feathers on a chicken.
Yes but they are owned by F&W publications and they don't have any real interest in providing funding or staff to Krause Publications. I can't say about NN but the Standard Catalog people are running on a skeleton crew which is probably why there are so many errors in the catalogs now and the 21st century catalog is years behind in new issue listings. I have two 14 inch double row boxes of coins that aren't in the catalog yet and they date back as far as 6 to 8 years. Krause is just a very small part of F&W's publishing empire and they just don't care.
Ever since Krause moved it's headquarters out of Iola this past year, everything is sliding downhill. Dave Harper has taken on a lot of extra duties since and there is very little proof reading with lots of mistakes happening. Although I still do like Ginger Rapsus, Skip Fazarri and R.W. Julian's articles.
He has probably had to take on the extra duties because the staff has probably been significantly reduced.
I haven't subscribed to NN in at least 5yrs. Still do to CW & LSN, but when they expire, plan on switching to digital only. Just not enough content in either to justify the cost of paper. I enjoy photography and most of their magazines have disappeared too. Seems everything is being crushed by the internet...
Funny thing I just received this in the mail. I was going to sign up for it but my pen is out of ink.
