16 bids on this. $66 so far. 1 day left. This is a vise job, not a striking error, and the reverse got filed down. I think the owner is not a scammer, but just does not know an error from an altered coin. Normally scammers don't offer 2 week returns.
"Vice Job" is the term used for any coin that has been squeezed against another coin. Whether it is done for the fun of it, or done to deceive someone to think the coin is some kind of error that has extra value. I think this was coin was squeezed in a hydraulic press. The pressure requirement needed to imprint a coin in such a manner is much greater that what can be obtained from a simple bench vice. IMO. The reverse of this coin was set against the metal of the press. Eagle is still visible but flat. This may have bee then outside coin of a three coin squeeze.
Goodness, 16 bids! Someone's going to be very upset when they come here in a day and a half to ask about this awesome error they got for cheap!
How do people even think this is possible. It’s a 1991 Quarter with a State Quarter obverse. Use some logic here.
People don't think this is possible, they just don't know any better. Outside of the collecting community people have no idea how coins are made. Anything out of the ordinary may catch their imagination. On the other hand, look at all the circulated off center coins out there, people just don't notice or don't care.
I'm sure this will show up in the Error or What's It Worth forums in a few weeks by a new member. We won't be able to convince them otherwise.
Clearly post mint damage, not an error. I am crafting a response and keeping it ready for them. Nah, just kidding.
The 'In God We Trust' impression is reversed - a clear sign of a viSe job, (not a job for the viCe squad)
Because they've never seen anything like it before. And thus, since*they* have never seen anything like it, then it must be RARE and real. of course they'll reject all logic, and stand firm that it is a REAL Error. Until after seeing half a dozen or more coin shops, sending it in to a couple free or inexpensive error experts, they'll finally send it in to PCGS/NGC/ANACS and it will come back without what they were expecting. But we'll never hear the end of the story ...
I am 100% with you on this, for coins people find in circulation. But I have a hard time believing people who know nothing about coins just randomly find their way to this auction and start bidding on them. I mean there’s bids here, I just can’t figure out who is bidding.
