I hope that bluntness extends to me... I hope you are sitting down....but I say this because I truly believe it.....

That half dime is lucky to have gotten MS. It is a dipped, maxed out AU -- which is exactly why it is still in the OGH and would never be cracked out by anyone.

People love OGHs. They think they hold upgrades. While many do, unfortunately the ones that haven't are often the most overgraded to begin with. Over time, this trend continues. It's like reverse natural slab selection, the good (undergraded) coins die and the bad (overgraded) slabs survive. Remember this.

All IMHO and respectfully but blunty submitted...Mike

sure to you and everyone else on here your bluntness has actually already helped me out remember the PF nickel most of the nicks were on the slab and i actually felt happy tat i made the right choice. when people point things out one of two things happen either they are right and you learn soething or you are right and you learn something about yourself occasionally both are right but thats complicated :D but i must tell you you are the most conservative grader and a coin would never make a 70 under your watch (its a compliment) but the rest of us have to live in the times. Please see i understand its not always possible for you guys to be 100% accurate as you dont have the coins in hand so you get the benefit of the doubt

Let me know where you see the wear usually ts harder to go 3 points below GD

unfortunately i dont have the luxury of slowing down there are some people who have more time than others and i can afford to lose a few bucks but not time. I am not going to be selling any coins if you look at my coin portfolio i am doing more than all right. as far as mistakes go we all make them but i am right more than 95% of the time and i am happy living with those odds. I understand your concern but I dont think you were ever in my position. Respectfully submitted.

You're right to doubt. You're right in pointing out we're trying to do it with pictures....

There is wear and hairlines on all the high points on both sides. There is luster disturbance in the fields. It is a dipped AU coin to me, I'm sorry to say.

I suspect GDJMSP was being nice giving it a 61.

If I wanted to be nice I would have just said something like "congrats" and not said anything, but you asked for blunt though, so there you have it.....Mike

if you are being nice you will call it as you see it and i respect you for that whether or not i agree with you. GD is not a man to spare words from what little i know he calls it as he sees it just like you. i will take a closer look when the coin arrives and let you know. i havent had one bad hit so far for my us type coin set and I hope this does not become the first ;)

I would respectfully respond that you wouldn't know a miss if you had one or not. The only way to find out, truly, is to sell a few coins. A man much wiser than I once told me, you don't learn from people teaching you, you learn through making mistakes and teaching yourself. Until you sell a few coins and figure it out, you are unlikely to learn. Respectfully....Mike

Let me give you a little advice of my own. I feel i should tell you this so you can put the no pain no gain motto in perspective. If you sell expensive coins just to see how you are doing in terms of grading you are making a mistake.

    A) you dont buy expensive coins usually to just flip them over you keep it for a few months/ years
    B) if your coins are good once you sell them they are gone and you will have to break your head hard to find them again especially if you have a pref for certain kinds of coins
    C) You should always have an SME to advise you whose opinions you trust no matter how good/great you are

I believe i have a good eye for picking out coins and this has been validated by SME's who have nothing to gain or lose whether i put $10k in the hobby or walk away from it tomorrow.

Everyone learns from making mistakes but thats not the only way to learn. A very wise man once told me if you are looking at the market to teach you something the only thing it will teach you is that you havent learned.

P.S all of the above was submitted with all due respect. I felt that I should at least give you the other side of the coin so you can determine what is best for you.
