Wow, I never thought I'd be able to not wait to get back to a book
I just read a 300 page book in less than 2 days
It was realy interesting, it told me about grading and tools that I need

it's really messed up to see that I already made a lot of mistakes that I will never EVER do again(buying a set thats not a good deal, cleaning a coin ET.)

    whats next,
should I start buying coins and supplies or another book
BTW; I may have a Red book incoming, if not I will just buy one

ALSO: anyone know where I can get a 4-5x Magnifying glass for cheap
only place i refuse to buy from is ebay

Try Jps Corner - I use them for supplies. For the next step I would recommend viewing as many as possible, before buying - and get a feel for the prices. Make sure you can grade - so practise grading. And don't be shy about asking more questions here.

You're doing real good so far Stainless and have a lot more information available then many of us did when we started.

Keep reading and if there is a coin shop in your area stop by and look (I think I'm repeating myself). That and shows.

Having no idea where you live this link might help.

Big or small a coin show is a great place to learn and I bought a very scarce coin at a show that had a whopping 3 dealers. Seems you have the heart and desire so go out and do it!

I have your Red Book at the ANA waiting for Ken Bressett to sign it for you. He usually drops by the ANA on Wednesdays so I am hoping he will sign it tomorrow. If all goes well I will have it in the mail to you by the end of the week.

    Patience.

The largest 5x glass I have been able to find is this:

but have not yet purchased it. I keep hoping that I'll find something larger before I decide I really need one.

You may want to find a good book on whatever series you have your eye on (I seem to recall you were interested in Morgans).

If you read a 300 page book about coins and you don't know what comes next, then either re-read the book more slowly or get another book.

Give him a bit of credit here Cloudsweeper99. He's 17, decided to start a new hobby , getting ready for college and doing what many of us suggest and that is learn about the hobby.

He's smart enough to ask questions to thousands - an option many of us didn't have when we started.

You just keep asking them Stainless and we'll keep giving the advice.

    well,
if i were given the choice i would have jumped strait into coins without even reading a book, and just make the mistakes and learn like I did with cards

mistakes in this hobby seem worse....so why not ask "whats next" to some experts on here instead of doing what my instincts want

BTW; CLEMBO-thanks for sticking up for me there
    appreciate it!!!:smile

Even after you have learned enough to feel comfortable buying coins, keep buying books and learning from them. I got involved with collecting 40 years ago, and while I did not buy many books early on, in recent years I typically buy 1-4 exonumia books per month. It doesn't hurt to re-read a book either. I find it to be like watching a movie for a second time, there always seems to be things picked up on that were completely unnoticed the first time around. Good luck with your collecting, and welcome to the forum.

Even when your very, very old you will find there is something to learn every day. Everyone should learn something new each day.
I suggest you don't waste to much money right now if your only a teenager. You possibly may loose interest in this hobby as many have and to much output of money may help end this sooner than later.
As to the Red Book it is what you should be looking into now. I suggest you try a used book store if any around. Also, second hand type stores may have some. Same with garage/yard/estate sales. I say this again to save money you may just want a few older editions of that book and several others. The only thing different would be the prices and they are usually not to accurate anyway. Also, as already noted see if there are any coin shows in your area. If so go to as many as possible to learn, look and find things for lots, lots, lots cheaper than on ebay or the internet. Decide what coins you may like now and in the future and attempt to acquire a few Albums to put them in.

Also, not sure if there are any flea markets around you but around me there are many of them and they all have many, many, many magnifiers. Same with Walmart, Kmart, Target, etc. No need to spend a lot of money on something you may never use in the future.
