G'Day, Does anyone know of a source of information on the Kato Klitoria (Greek) coin hoard of 1980? I keep coming across references to it, but I'd like to find something a bit more specific and detailed on the actual hoard and its discovery. Buffo
I don't know anything about it other than this Forum Ancient Coins blurb: Kato Klitoria Hoard Warren, J. “The Kato Klitoria Hoard” in Kraay-Mørkholm Essays. In 1980, a small jug (oenochoe) containing 83 silver coins was found in Northern Arkadia, near ancient Kleitor. Evidence from the find suggested the small hoard was buried c. 235 B.C. Of the 83 coins found, 71 were obols. All of the Peloponnesian coins from the Kato Klitoria hoard are of high grade, and are noted for their excellent metal quality. ... TIF, Thanks for that. I'll check out that publication. I was in the area last May where evidently the hoard was found. It was interesting to find out recently that there was a hoard associated with that beautiful mountainous part of the Peloponnese. Thanks again, Buffo
