In regards to this point, it really does not prove the value of the coin. I know plenty of dealers who wouldn't even offer $1,000 in the current holder. It actually says more about certain dealers than it does about the coin (some don't specialize in Franklins while others are just trying to make a rip).

As to the grade, someone on the PCGS Forum posted the following. The MS 66+ cert number is no longer active, so it can't be confirmed. Another poster on there mentioned seeing the coin in a 66 (no plus) holder and passing as the price was too high (again this can't be confirmed; I'm just summarizing the info that has been presented).

I think you are violating your own principles of speaking without proof here. Unless you personally know all of the bidders, their intentions and the reasons that they submitted their bids then there is no proof that it was "as simple as that." This is just as speculatory as anything else you have called speculatory in this thread.

I'm not so sure I agree about this whole FBL scam.
(I am not saying this coin doesn't have FBL).
What I am saying is, ALL MS Franklins should have FBL.
And then you get the "weak strike school of philosophy". Since strike is part of the grade, then an "MS" Franklin without FBL should be AU 59+.
And you can get rid of this extra FBL attribution.

I don't think a single person here has seen the coin in hand. A few over on CU have. The rest of us are posting opinions based on images. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm good with 66+ or 67+ because all I have seen are images. Laura, PCGS, CAC and some other cool folks have held the coin. I'm not going to argue with them.

I'm shocked at the price it brought but it's not the first time a pretty coin has brought crazy money. It will be interesting to see what the coin brings at future auctions.

I have seen this one in hand. It is gorgeous, but not 67+ or $110k gorgeous.

Is this the same coin that turned into such a big deal many years ago? I remember this coin from way back but not the details.

I remember previous threads about this coin, but I honestly can't remember when, on which forum, or what they were about.

In your opinion which PCGS, CAC and JA, and the bidders/buyers all seemed to disagree with

I think the question that isn't getting answered (from the perspective of a doubter) is that not too long ago if one would have claimed the coin was MS66+ all those same people would have been in agreement.

How would you feel if you owned the coin at MS66+ as determined by all of these people, sold it for $1000.00, and then had these same people later declare it was MS67+, only to see the value skyrocket? You'd probably feel as if you'd been cheated out of about 100K.

You keep arguing that these people are skilled graders and trustworthy but I don't see anyone calling their skills into question. You're arguing a point nobody else is arguing. I think the question that needs to be answered is how a dozen experts can think a coin is MS66 one day and MS67 the next. It isn't a small quibble, in this case it was 100K.

At what point was PCGS wrong, exactly?

I took a really good look at the reverse on that coin.
I noticed the bell has a crack in it.
    So no, not an MS67+.
