A coin-friend of mine e-mailed me pictures of 3 gold coins. He's asking me advice since they're part of a big lot, as he said. The first is Roman, I believe, with Victory inscribing VOT on reverse. The 2 others others are Byzantine, having probably Victory on reverse. I could easily read " DN Zeno" on obverse of one of them. Both reverses of the Byzantine coins are photographed together, so are the 2 obverses. Please post a comment if you can, regarding authenticity or other info that you might know. Thank you.
I don't know too much about gold, but the first looks similar obverse to a Constantine Siliqua. I'd search there for that one. The right gold Byz looks like it reads DN IVSTINI.... ----- Edit: Constantine, Nicomedia mint, RIC 175 https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?term=Victoria Constantini avg VOT xxx RIC 175&category=1-2&en=1&de=1&fr=1&it=1&es=1&ot=1&images=1&thesaurus=1&order=0¤cy=usd&company= I can't comment on authenticity. That one coin alone if genuine would be about $16,000-$18,000 in value.
That's a great Constantine coin. I haven't heard much about gold coins being fakes but I suppose it's possible. However, it appears to me to be authentic.
