I posted my Seleucid collection last week and noticed that I was missing many key rulers. This poster features 8 more coins. I'm still in need of a few.

Great job @Deacon Ray, making good progress. Your Antiochus X is actually IX though.

    Thanks for posting!

I love Seleucid. I intend to purchase my first in the not too distant future.

I may be a bit partial given that I focus on Seleukos I, but I think it is a great area to collect. The tets can easily be had for under $300, or even $200 if you hunt, and are plentiful. As @Deacon Ray shows with his collection, there are some great bronze coins to be had too with a ton of variety.

Deacon, your Antiochus VII it's still my favorite. The lion obverse is great.

Nice batch of Seleucids, Deacon Ray. I am impressed.

Just lately I've been accumulating a specimen here and there. The quality has been a bit iffy, given my budget. Here is Seleukos III - yours is a lot nicer than mine (at least I think ours are the same - I am a real beginner at these). This came as part of a lot - I was mystified at the obverse, until I figured out I was looking at a grossly off-center bust of Artemis.

The sad thing is, compared to other examples I found on line, mine is actually quite nice in terms of style and surfaces - if it had just been better-centered. Yours is the best one I've seen.

Yes, I think I'll go for a Tet or a Drachme for my first purchase.

I intend to split and expand my "ancients" collection into Roman and Greek (including successor states, like Seleucid)

Oh no! I'll trust you, David, but the dealer said it was an Antiochus X...I think...o_O. I changed it to IX. In that case I still need an Antiochus X and an Antiochus XI. If any of my forum friends see any that are available, please let me know. Thanks, David!

Thank you for the advice, David@PCC ! I didn't know you used to be a VCoins dealer. In that case I totally trust your opinion! I don't want to blame the dealer from whom I purchased the coin. He's no longer a dealer and he was not an expert on Seleucids. Actually, I probably got the information wrong. Would you mind being one of my Seleucid advisor's? :woot:

I just checked the original ad and I totally got it wrong. The notice clearly said Antiochus IX. :wacky:

Sure I would be happy to help. You've already embraced the dark side, now you are ready to be an initiate of the greatest of the diodochi.

Very cool coins @Deacon Ray - I have a couple of Seleucid serrates in my collection that I haven't really identified yet, other than that I know they are Seleucids. My skills at attributing Greek and Hellenistic coins are pretty limited at this point.

I'm in the same category, @ancient coin hunter ! I admire the beautiful portraiture on them but I'm very inexperienced in their identification. Thank you for your positive comments!
