I prefer nitrile disposable gloves that you can buy boxes of one hundred for a few bucks (Harbor Freight Tools). They do make my hand sweat if I wear them for a long time, but I get a more positive grip on the coins and can pick them up from flat surfaces. If I am just looking at one or two coins, I use the cotton gloves.
But why though is my question? if it was a rare type of coin and you need gloves to touch it and millions of people have already handled it but you need gloves to hold so no oil from fingers get on it. When it's already been touched? Any type of coin has been around and handled. So the use is were?
If you want to wear cotton gloves looking at a new roll or bag of coins, that's fine. I don't think you need to, if you're going thru circulated coins. Just my opinion, though
Yes I go through circulated coins. Don't know we're to get new rolls from. Banks but I haven't went through new ones.
If you don't wear gloves, make sure you handle the coins by their edge to avoid leaving finger prints. It's just an added protection to keep the coin as you originally found it.
I don't use gloves when I go through piles of circulated coins as you suggested. But, if I have a specific few that I may be more interested in I will use the gloves to further examine. Or, as others have said, new coins will always get the gloves treatment. My point was that it should be a habit to have them for specific coins.
