You got a nice coin. Keep the cost a secret. Thanks for sharing. Sure is a hard to find coin. Red book says you could of got one for 661,250 bucks. You got a good deal. One way to look at it. Didn't mention shipping

I have no cents at all.:wacky:

But in seriousness, I did collect early copper years ago but strayed away about 10 years ago. I wish I had continued, the prices have jumped a bit since then.

And I think the person you are referring to is Jack D. Young.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I don't like the rough, heavily marked surfaces. I wouldn't call it damage, really, but it is not a look that I prefer. I like smooth, mark free surfaces as much as possible.

The Doubling is only seen on the Obverse of the Coin, not the Reverse.

@Cheech9712 Also... talk of it being Counterfeit. That I am sure is not the case. It is a genuine 1804 Large Cent.

Look again, specifically the tips of most of the leaves on the lower half of the wreath, the left ribbon bow, the wreath stems, and both ribbons

No no no. There's a guy who studies early cents (jack young) he's close to an expert on counterfeit early cents. Trying to get you his name. He's very good. Wasn't saying your coin was not real. Sorry

I just joined a few weeks ago and started reading these posts, so this is my first post/reply. I am a large cent collector. I'm including a picture of my 1804, and was glad to get it after looking for over 2 years, bought it from an EAC member who was upgrading.
You asked what I would pay for it, in truthful terms-I don't have that kind of money.
CQR (18th edition) 04/30/06 [there are 1 or 2 later editions but CQR is no longer being produced]:
    1804 S-266A (state A - Perfect Dies)
    AVE- 5+ F15 $7000, VF-25 $11000, EF-40 $35000
Heritage auction 9/26/13 PCGS VF25 $8812 - with similar marks to yours but without the dig on obverse and not an error coin.
eBay (today 9/29/18) the Ruff/Ellsworth coin PCGS VF25 is for sale for $11900
Of the top 10 S-266's listed in Noyes book, only 1 is a 266A, all the rest are state B & C and several of those are in the ANA collection in Colorado.
What would I pay for that coin if offered to me by an EAC member, that's a tough one, but only because I prefer large cents that are lighter in color - butternut is really nice in my opinion.
If you are in Dallas (assuming from your name), try and get the Heritage large cent guy to review it (MB). If you aren't you may want to send it to BG in Florida for his review and his little grading card he puts with it. And he keeps a census of large cents as well. I'm only using initials for people as I don't know what the policy is regarding using people's names. If you know large cents, you know without a doubt who the above initials refer to.
The largest large cent eBay seller has a PCGS G6 for sale for $3950, and it is not near the coin you have. And he has over 30 large cents for sale over $10000.
So the price I would pay for your coin...see above!

Grellman does keep a census, but it is for late dates. Census for early dates would be Noyes or Bland.
