There is a land, somewhere between a coin being your and being someone elses, where everything remains uncertain and the coin you've paid for is not truly yours yet. I am referring of course to the FORVM Underworld (also known as layaway). So after a month of throwing wads of cash at FORVM begging them to let my coin go free, it appears that the three-headed and grotesque masters of the FORVM underworld finally had their greed satiated and my poor little beauty has been set free from captivity. I sailed upon the river Styx, walked past the monstrous three-headed dog creature Cerberus, and plucked this little coin from the hands of Pluto himself, and with the help of the ferryman Charon, I escaped through the river Acheron and accomplished what the mighty poet Orpheus himself could not do...the rescue of my beloved. Uhm, either that or I just paid them a bunch of cash and they let the coin go when I paid my balance....but the former seems like a more interesting story. I was going to add that I fought an army of Titans and cyclops that were bent on stealing the coin away, but I didn't want to make my story unbelievable. But that part about meeting Pluto, Cerberus, and crossing the rivers of the underworld...all real! So yeah, totally true story, folks. Why would anyone lie about a thing like that?
I've got nothing else on layaway at the moment. I'm sure that will all change soon when I see another $400 or $600 coin I want and realize I've already blown my hobby budget for the month (as usual).
It's a beauty and Worth the effort on your part. And Forvm has been kind enough to accept a layaway from a lawyer, I would have been uncomfortable Q
@Sallent —That's an awesome legionary denarius! I placed an order from FORVM this morning and have not received the customary confirmation reply so I sent an email asking them if they received my order request. There was still no reply. It just occurred to me that they may have been adversely impacted by the hurricane last week and could be without power. I wish them well, they're great people. 9/19/18 PM: Update edit: Joe replied that they will resume mailing next week.
Good quality Antony galley like yours sallent will just keep going up in price, congrats on snaring a superb piece.
Nice coin @Sallent - really nice legionary denarius of Antony. Here's my ultra-budget version that did not need layaway or the necessity to fend off Cerberus or pay the boatman.
Great coin! And I didn't know Forvm did layaway (especially for lawyers), hmm this could be dangerous (financially that is, although that whole trip to the underworld thing to actually pick up the coin might be a bit risky too).
Why can't the lawyer do layaway? I don't get why people don't trust us. I'll have you know a recent survey of public trust of professions in the US showed that lawyers are now more trusted than serial killers, and we are almost tied with corrupt politicians. That's a marked improvement from only 5 years ago when lawyers were less trustworthy than the profession of Prince of Darkness (aka Satan). At this rate, in another decade we might be more trustworthy than professional snake oil salesmen.
I will say this, I'm kind of disappointed no one here called me out for referring to Hades as Pluto (his Roman name) when I used Greek names for everything else, and it was clear from Cerberus and the two rivers I mentioned that I was referring specifically to the Greek version of the afterlife, and not the Roman underworld (which although similar, it's not exactly the same as the Greek underworld.) I did it on purpose as an Easter Egg, hoping someone would find it and call me out on it, but I see now that I could have probably added a few characters that have nothing to do with Greek mythology and no one here would have been the wiser. I'm going to make two books recommendations here. Either one of these two books will serve the purpose. They are great! Pick one up and enjoy the wonderful world of ancient Greek mythology.
And here she is in my hands in Florida. Just got it today. Note, I did not pay the $580. I made the layaway when FORVM was running a 15% off promotion, so my cost was around $490.
