I had an amazing time at the last coin show in Las Vegas at Westgate Resort and Casino. I am very sorry for the very poor quality photos . I was in a rush to get these photos on my friend Karen's phone camera. you can see some what what they look like. The gold coin is much better in person... Switzerland 20 francs, 1930-B, KM#35.1 , .900 gold, mintage-3,371,764 , weight-6.45g or 0.1867oz. coin looks way better in person. paid $325 and I am very happy with it. @panzerman you are a good influence on me.... I want some gold coins too. Italy, (1943) restrike fantasy piece struck in silver that looks proof like. 20 Lire KM#70 (1928) I really liked the lion head and the grade. I am hoping this coin does not offend anyone. If it does I apologize now. and I bought this 10 oz Scottsdale silver loaf "Chucky" bar.... they are so fun to hold. I feel like a pirate with treasure when I hold this little bar. AAAAARRRRRRRR me mates. lol
I achieved a couple of upgrades at a local auction today: 1907 Edward VII Florin, not scarce but difficult to find in good grades: 1885 Victoria Gothic Florin:
Here's a new pickup for my Hungarian type set (1848-1956): Hungary - Transylvania 1848E AU Ducat (Austrian Imperial Type) Austria KM-2262 PCGS MS61 Interestingly, due to a unique set of circumstances there were three different ducat types minted in Hungary during the first year I cover in my type set (1848). The Austrian Imperial type (above) was struck only at the E mint (Hungarian branch mint of Transylvania). The Hungarian Kingdom type was struck only at the B mint (the main Hungarian mint of Körmöcbánya). Both of those types were produced from 1835-1848 during the reign of Ferdinand I/V, with 1848 being the last year of both types due to his abdication. The Hungarian War of Independence then broke out in 1848, and when that mint came under control of the rebels, the third ducat type, the War of Independence ducat was struck at the B mint (a one-year type). For reference, the photo below is of the 1848 War of Independence ducat from my type set (NGC MS63). I am still missing a suitable example of the 1848 Hungarian Kingdom ducat type, though it is essentially identical to the type below except for the legends.
Picked this up at the CNG auction that ended today. Description and picture are both from the auction site. The portrait is better than others that I have seen. Not bad for less than $100. TUDOR. Elizabeth I. 1558-1603. AR Sixpence (26.5mm, 3.10 g, 3h). Third and Fourth issues. Tower (London) mint; im: pheon. Dated 1561. Crowned bust left; rose to right / Coat-of-arms over long cross fourchée. North 1997; SCBC 2560. VF, toned, slight doubling in portrait. From the Dr. William E. Triest Collection.
Well, as you wrote yourself, that Italian propaganda thing is not a coin anyway. The Swiss coin featuring "Vreneli" is nice though. Christian
To each their own but 70+/- years after the fact still isn't much time for those whom suffered or died under his regime. How would you feel about Sadam Hussein on a coin? Collect what you like my friend, but if you ask.... if it offends most probably it does or will.
I have this Sadam Hussein coin. I even did this art thing where he was caught and jailed.... at the time he was caught I could have sold this coin for $90.00 in this amazing grade, but I wanted to hold on to it because of the history behind it and because I had fun making this jailed over head transperancy shrunk down and cut out from a egg ad in a magazine. I even added the jail bars shadows. Added a craft brad to hold it on.
Polish pattern. 10 zlotych 1965, copper-nickel, weight - 12,9 g., size - 31 mm, mintage - 30100 pcs. Type: "700th Anniversary of Warsaw". Warsaw Mint.
Not a coin I had on my radar, but I picked this Alexandrian Tet of Claudius I since it attracted no other bidders. Was a bit less than $40 total and the black adhesions are a bit tough to get off & had some minor bronze disease. It was worse looking before lemon juice bath. Claudius (41 - 54 A.D.)
