I purchased this back in May but I've been to busy to post it. It came from The @Sallent Collection by way of @John Anthony. Thank you both. This is a nice coin to add to my slow but growing ancient collection. I find myself liking the religious coins now that I'm more into ancients. Judaean Kingdom Herod Agrippa I, AD AE Prutah, 17mm, 2.4g, 12h Obv. (I think it's King Agrippa in Greek or Hebrew) (I can't make the symbols on my phone) lol Umbrella-like canopy with fringes Rev. Three heads of barley between two leaves flanked by L-c, (year 6). Reference: Hendin 1244 Formally from The Sallent Collection Currently in The Collecting Nut Collection
It is a superb coin, but as I moved more towards a Roman and Greek focus, Judean coinage kind of took a distant second in my collection. So I was happy to sell it and use the money towards other coins. Interestingly it is the one ancient coin I've sold that I actually made a significant profit on, something along the lines of 35% to 40%. I originally got it when a dealer was running a discount promotion, and it seemed like his price on it was a little on the low end to begin with (and the promotion deal made it that much cheaper).
wow! I have looked at these coins for a while and this is one of the best conditioned pieces ive seen. beautiful pick up
Yes, BACIΛEωC AΓPIΠA. That's a wonderful example of the type! Well-struck, good centering, and free of the makeup or wax found on so many. (Not that all desert patinas are fake...)
@Collecting Nut I forgot to include the old provenance tickets with the coin. Do you want them? I can put it in the mail for you. It can go just fine inside an envelope, so it won't cost much more than one stamp for me to send it to you.
Very nice coin @Collecting Nut (and @Sallent ). I have an example in my collection that has the more typical weak strike:
