As most of you know one of our fellow CoinTalk regulars (@Severus Alexander) has started an auction house based out of the frozen nort… I mean Canada.

Sweet name and logo . Anyway, what I thought might be of interest to the rest of the ancient board is that the website is up and running and the first auction is scheduled for November 25th!

    Website: https://www.amcoinscanada.com/

Anyone who is interested in participating can sign up on biddr.

    Listed on biddr: https://www.biddr.ch/auctions/amcoinscanada/

I for one find this news exciting as I will have another auction house to choose from (run by a friend no less). Sadly, since CNG will not sell to customers who live in Minnesota there really isn’t a go to North American auction house that I buy from anymore.

Also exciting news is that The James Pickering Collection of Romano-Britannic Coinage a.k.a. the @jamesicus collection will be featured in the first auction! Here is one of my ex jamesicus tetrarchy coins.

    Diocletian_Follis_AD_295.jpg
    Roman Empire
    Diocletian, AD 284-305
AE Follis, Lugdunum Mint, 1st officina, struck ca. AD 295
    Dia.: 28 mm
    Wt.: 8.5 g
Obv.: IMP C DIOCLETIANVS P F AVG; Laureate bust right
Rev.: GENIO POP-VLI ROMANI: Genius standing left holding patera and cornucopia /LA in exergue
Ref.: RIC VI 2a, Lugdunum Group I, Class II
    Ex Jamesicus Collection

I know that Thomas is offering a special deal to CoinTalk regulars who decide to consign with him so feel free to PM him if you are interested in consigning any coins for his auctions. From what he tells me there should be plenty to choose from for all budgets from pick-bin type material all the way up to specialty and / or rare items.

Since I like to post threads with a relevant coin in it... hmmm, AMCC, Canada... snow... winter...

Okay here is an anonymous quadrans with the personification of winter on the obverse (not my coin)

I for one will be looking forward to November for more than turkey this year... wait Canadian Thanksgiving is in October o_O

I have submitted four coins for consignment just to help out. Hopefully the first auction will mark the beginning of a long and prosperous journey for Severus Alexander in the auctions business.

The fact that @jamesicus coins are also up for auction will probably mean I'll be bidding as well as selling .

You know @Sallent shipping pests or other invasive insects across international borders is generally frowned upon and discouraged with the threat of penalties or prison. You shouldn't be sending your roaches to Canada.

It really is true @Severus Alexander and not limited to CNG. A lot of dealers won't conduct business with customers in Minnesota. The legislature passed an onerous "consumer protection" bill in 2013 dealing with "bullion coins" which they defined as any coin with more than 1% precious metal by weight. Dealers had to register with the state, post a bond, conduct criminal background checks on current and past employees, and provide metallurgical information about their coins. It applied to dealers in Minnesota and any out-of-state dealer that sold $5000 worth of coins to people in Minnesota either via the web or at coin shows.

Wonderful news - I am registered! Will be laying off any other auctions for the time being and saving to support my fellow Hoser.

Only one provincial roach traveled to Canada...

    The rest are as follows:

I love this spade, but it's so freaking big that I've always had to store it separately, so I decided I wanted to replace it with more conventionally sized coins.

    Hadrian Cappadocia hemidrachm.jpg
This little Hadrian was hard to let go of, but it's not my only Hadrian and it's going towards a good cause, namely helping to initiate Severus Alexander's new auction house.

    Japan 4 Mon 11 Wave Pattern.jpg
And this Japanese Mon Waves coin is a beauty, but I've decided to focus on traditional ancient Chinese cash coins instead.

A huge thanks to @jamesicus, @zumbly, @Sallent, @Justin Lee, @Caesar_Augustus, and many other CoinTalkers (I've only mentioned those I've asked permission from) who have stepped up and provided great consignments to ensure the first auction will be success!! Also to @TIF and others for providing other kinds of support. Plus all of you who are signing up to bid... I couldn't have done it without y'all!

I'm impressed you know the word "toque" in Singapore! You even spelled it right! :D

You're right it's been a long time coming. I got increasingly frustrated waiting for one to come into existence here and then it eventually dawned on me that there was one surefire way I could end the wait... ;):cat:

Wow, that is stunning. A benefit to operating in Canada that I wasn't previously aware of!

Thanks, Peter! Yeah, everyone will be able to take advantage of the dismal Canadian dollar. :(:beaver::smuggrin:

Yes!! Any Canadian team would be great, but Toronto's drought really deserves a downpour! (Of champagne from that hallowed bowl...)

I have a feeling that owning an ex-@jamesicus coin will hold a special place in any of our collections. I am here well under a year - and probably won't win any of those coins but I certainly have witnessed the respect everyone has for this special member. Should be a wonderful auction. I am very happy that I will witness it and place a few bids. Great community!
