I totally get the bickering with two people who feel they are each right. It gets bizarre when one is disputing a provable fact rather than an opinion (for example, a moderator tried to tell me a few days ago that there is no difference between a blank and a planchet. Seriously...he did). It is not the bickering that bothers me.

What does bother me are longtime members who are sarcastic jerks to new members for not understanding how things work on this site, or who don't know the hobby as well as we do. There is no need to attack new people or imply they are stupid because they don't know a true mint error from PMD, they didn't post a photo, or don't understand proofs from business strikes. People who are condescending, arrogant, and snobby about their expertise are far more annoying than a new member asking what we might think is a stupid question.

The other thing I hate is when people ask a question that they can easily check for themselves (e.g. "what years did they produce "S" mint Peace dollars?"). But rather than tell them off, I ignore them.

Many of you know me by now. I ask questions on here if I find conflicting info or I need to lean on the experience of others who specialize in certain coins. I have been corrected a few times and am thankful for it. But some on here love to purposely instigate and enjoy being jerky to others, quick to pounce on another's mistakes, and when you call them out on it, get bent out of shape. (Speaking of which, anyone hear from cpm9ball lately?)

I only saw one quick post recently, then he dropped off the radar again. Someone else mentioned he was having computer problems. Maybe that last post was from a phone?

 

He was last here on April 15th.

Whatever the reason, safe to say computer problems are not it. I miss that scruffy curmudgeon.

I remember that. It was "planman20" who scammed some people on here.( the guy who said he had error coins he was selling for a friend, people gave him money, and then he scammed them.)

 

I heard Jello did the same thing.

CT you are right. I get bitter the older I get I guess and have little patience, obviously, when talked to instead of with. I'm a southern, take no prisoners Atypical guy. Most Texans forgive and forget.as I was as a younger guy. No excuses meant but I was thrown into the bonfire 2 weeks post 9/11 and transferred to Manhattan to deal with the NYC guys that were understandably shocked and upset as I could see. As a security consultant I was the last guy they wanted to hear ANYTHING from and no insults intended but the Yank way of communicating especially after they were attacked was very hard for a country boy to get used to. If you've been there in a horrible situation, the guys (who are now good friends of mine) were still in the mindset of if you don't holler and cuss back at them, they didn't respect you. Needless to say 7 years of that calmed me to a normal New Yorker type, but after
retiring I just really never got over disrespecting people as an everyday way of life. It is taken me a long time now to get slightly off-edge and layed back a little bit. I agree I got off on the wrong foot with P98 and I DO owe him and every other decent member my deepest apologies . I bite my tongue everyday for one reason or another.and for that I am truly sorry. Please if you could ( i really don't know how and where to post things correctly} offer my apologies to Paddy and the entire group for my old bitter man actions and insults and am ashamed if I upset anyone. I really bark much more than I bite but when our country was attacked and I was already too old to re-enlist, I just found other avenues to vent down. After starting coins in Cub Scouts in the early 60's, I wasn't prepared for the modern ways of incuse, gouges, out-gassing and ERRORS. So If CT can bear with me a little while longer, this will not happen ever again. As I mentioned, education breeds success and the old saying "Money doesn't grow on trees" has to be reiterated daily to the 6 0r 7 generations I'm just now getting used to and comfortable with carrying on learned discussions of coins, friends and everyday life with. Please find something in my post to quote my sorrow for acting out as I did. It won't happen again. TG
