I've never been a roll hunter, but I've looked at nearly every coin that has gone through my hands since I was a kid in 1970. Best I ever found was about 10 Partial Collar VA State quarters in an Unc roll I got when they were issued. Also found a Nickel Blank Planchet, one minor of center cent, and a few minor clips. That's it.

I agree with @Michael K that it is very unusual to find valuable errors in circulation. All of these "find a fortune in pocket change" books and YouTube crap just gives new collectors unrealistic expectations and leads to disappointment when they truthful answers from sites like CT.

BTW: @DanP , great find. I don't mean to take anything away from your post. Enjoy the coin and the excitement. I think most of us are celebrating with you

Looks good from the pictures but the real question, which almost no one ever seems to ask, is what does it weigh, to two decimal placed preferably.

I'll try to get a more precise measurement, but on a cruder scale it was 4 grams. The scale doesn't measure tenths though.

You will need a more accurate scale than that.

@Michael K I never gave it a thought that you were trying to discourage anyone from doing anything:)

Since a normal clad quarter should weigh 5.7 grams,
if your scale shows 4 grams, it's probably a genuine
'missing clad layer'.....they tend to weigh 4.2 to 4.5 grams
    or so.
