    Hey all,
If the US complies with the Chinese requests and bans the import of Chinese coinage ... how will this affect collectors of those types of coins?......

Being a bit of a cynic, if the Chinese government does its bit to prevent the shipment of Chinese coins, then at one stroke the flow into the collectors market of modern cast forgeries would be halted overnight.

I suspect that's not quite what you had in mind, but given that the vast majority of modern fakes now emanate from China that is exactly what the net result would be. It's a move i would welcome too ;-)

Well, greatly reduced, but not halted. There would still be Bulgaria, and the indirect route from China through Korea.

Although I think it would make the collection of Chinese coins more difficult, I would have to say that I agree with Ian and the benefits would outweigh that negative. I would feel bad for the Chinese coin collectors that couldn't fill in their collections, though.

Hey, Coinnut, this is the first that I have heard of this. Do you have a link to an article or can you tell me where you read it?

does this include forgeries? because, if that were the case, then it would make Ebay a vastly more safe place to purchase!

    hehehe.

It was on the front page of Coin World last week.

Thus far, Coin World was one of the publications that I wasn't subscribed to. Thanks to Catman, I have made the decision to start getting Coin World. This is the third article that I've seen reference to that I would have loved to have read when it first came out. And I'm sure there are a lot of articles I don't even know about that I would have been interested in. It seems that their reporting is very in touch with the day-to-day issues in the numismatic world.

I really enjoy Coin World. Look forward to recieving it every week. Kinda got irked at them when they closed the forums, but the pain didn't last long once I started posting here. So much more to offer.

A ban on Chinese coins would have absolutely nothing to do with the future of counterfeit world coins that is currently being produced daily in China. They will just keep pouring in, through the cracks, as long as there are people willing to bid on items with an Asian seller. Personally I don't favor bans as that could be the beginning of the next ban. Once a snowball starts rolling it tends to get bigger!
