Struck using authentic US Mint cancelled dies from the Carson City Mint Museum collection on a 2oz .999 planchet. I've wanted one for a while

An 1884 obverse die paired with an 1878 reverse die is slightly beyond Neat...That is frigging awesome....:woot:

Nobody. From what I understand, they were struck in the early 90s using die press #1 as a promotional draw to get people to visit the museum. They were done in 1oz, 2oz & copper as far as I know but I still need/want to do research on them and the event to pin down exact details.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

What is the story behind these? What do you mean "struck from cancelled dies?"

I am looking forward to a cool story.

From what I remember of the story (I haven't done any looking into it yet) they were made as a sort of advertising to get people to visit the CC Mint Museum using die press #1 with authentic cancelled dies from the collection. From what I understand they were made in 1oz silver, 2oz silver & copper and/or brass. I'd also like to find the mintage figures of each type.

Where did the "authentic cancelled dies" come from?

    That's the real story.

If you don't know, look it up... it's well documented.
