This 1887 Morgan I bought today with a box of world coins.
Do ya think its a 7 over 6, also what`s going on with the second 8.

I'm not liking this coin. Is the weight correct?

The second 8 has a die chip in that crevice. This is very common on Morgan Dollars. The top of the 7 is caused by Post Mint Damage.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Well, it is clearly not the Vam-2, which is the one recognized as the 7/6 variety. http://vamworld.com/wiki/1887-P_VAM-2

As for which variety it actually is, I'll let someone else help you there.

The coin itself has been cleaned and has a dull appearance, but it looks genuine.

Okay guys thanks, die chip and a crushed 7.

I know its been cleaned , it was the other coins I was interested in, this was just a bonus.
It is the correct weight and it reacts properly to a rare earth magnet.

Looks authentic, but cleaned. jtlee321 is correct - the 8 is a die chip, 7 is PMD.
