Early last summer (2017) I had gotten a variety of small uncleaned lots and had been soaking them, taking them out and brushing them every few months Today I decided to take them out and see what they look like and there were a few that turned out "ok" . These ones below I need a little bit of help with though. Small byzantine denomination? Anastasius? Column with cross? Hexagon trachy? Bust of Jesus on obverse (what's left of it) and half-body of Jesus on reverse? Gallienus? with Jupiter holding globe? Silvered radiate bust w/ Aequitas?
Definitely Gallienus in there. Sometimes it's fun just to be able to identify those once forlorn slugs. Good job cleaning. But it does require the patience of Job.
This is what I'm seeing on the Obv of the hex-trachy (I think that's a nose, not meant to be a smiley face): And in the column-cross one (or could that top A/Delta be another X?):
The first one is a decanummium, probably Justinian. I'd like to have a better look at the mintmark in the exergue, kind of intriguing. On the left of the reverse is ANNO and on the right XXII(?).
I think the trachy is from the Latin rulers of Constantinople, with the archangel Michael on the reverse. (And yes, Christ facing on the obverse.) Like this one.
That reminds me. I have a jar sitting on the back of my desk with some uncleaned lots that I bought back in... 2012(?). It's been a while. Been soaking in olive oil for years. I just about gave up last time I looked. Love that hex trachy. Something like that would make it all worthwhile to me.
I think Sol is on the reverse of the Gallienus. I'm guessing that the last coin is a barbarous radiate, probably imitating Tetricus II, and failing in the attempt.
