In my never-ending quest to try to be interesting and relevant on social media :joyful:, I created this illustration showing some of the ways to collect and build sets. I could name other ways to collect (there are many), but I want to get others involved and ask you all to name some here. You could also mention what your preferred style is or what are the pros and cons of some ways. Enjoy!

Point? Not sure what you're trying to achieve.......

Yeah... not entirely sure what the point here is.

I feel there is far too much complexity in numismatics to be encapsulated by a simple pictograph like you depict. That will suffice for the absolute lowest common denominator person who may find a wheat cent in change.

It might be great for a Facebook Meme.

It's not going to do a whole lot for anyone interested in more than State quarters or Bicentennial quarters.

My guess is this can be a helpful starting point for beginners or those trying to focus in on some collecting style.

Box of 20 is a type that comes to mind...although that might not be for someone just starting their collection (and can be a subset of type collecting).

One of each country is something I hear is popular.

I happen to collect the first issue date of each type & variety

I like the pic. Does give some of the many ways to collect. I've recently started collecting again and I seem to be combining several of these. I've got 3 1853 seated lib quarters, all around the f/vf grade and toning. Hoping to add more soon. :)

Well, maybe some newbies will see the pictures and realize there are ways to collect besides posting dryer change as errors.

No need to call it quits. Some people didn't have much to add while others did. Not all threads run for multiple pages; I know as I've had some 1-2 response threads. Plus it's only been a few hours; you'll see more activity. :)

Perhaps I should have inserted the word "by" in the illustration. For example, "by type" or "by denomination" or "by strike".

The idea behind my post was to show others that there are many ways to build a set or structure a collection. Obviously, if you are an experienced collector you already know this and also know that your collection doesn't have to be aimed at achieving a specific goal such as completing a set. If this applies to you then just move along.

Many collectors, especially novice (but some intermediate ones too), are not aware of some of the other ways to collect. Perhaps this could be helpful to them. Maybe they are wanting to build a full type set but find it daunting and expensive. Well maybe this gives them the idea to do that set but limiting it to one mint branch. Mix and match man. Get with the program gentlemen! :joyful:

I know, and thanks for the encouragement . I'm used to dud threads believe me :D. Just checked and this is my 199th thread on this website. I was being facetious with the shoot myself comment. There are some on here that have the tendency to be negative (for whatever reason). It doesn't bother me. If I were negatively affected by what someone says on the internet it means I have a bigger problem than anything they could ever say. I just hope they find peace and happiness.
