I was wondering what precautions coin collectors take to insure that they receive the exact coin back that they sent to a grading service. Should I take close up photos of the coin before submitting? I do not know, and I have never met the person in my town that I must submit my coins to, and then he sends them to the grading service with several other collector’s coins. Any information is appreciated.

    Thank you, Jim

There are several ways for you to submit your coins directly to the grading services. Both PCGS and NGC have collector programs that allow direct submissions. The A.N.A also offers this type of program for submissions to NGC. If there is a major show in your area, the large grading companies usually have a table there for same day or regular tier programs. A photo is nice, but unless there are specific marks on the coin that can be identifed positively, that option is limited. If you must use a dealer for your submissions, use one that you have a regular relationship with. It is always wise to develope a good relationship with a dealer just for these types of concerns. I hope that this has been somewhat of a help.
