Found this eBay ad for this seated half. Around 50 bin with shipping. Not bad price. But should u really show what it was priced before? Lol https://m.ebay.com/itm/1853o-Seated...sh=item1a5e243d62:g:aYUAAOSwbP1ablbM&LH_BIN=1
I don't see what's funny here. I see a guy selling an 1853 O Arrows and Rays Half that grades G, and appears to be original. The selling price is $45, and the value on the NGC price guide says $60. So, he's selling a nice coin at a fair price. What am I missing?
The 2x2 shows the price he paid because he was too lazy to replace the 2x2. It just shows the huge profit margin the seller is trying to achieve. I usually pass by sellers who do this.
Yeh, with "UNITED STATES" merging with the rim on the reverse G-4 would be my grade. And at that grade I'd say his asking price is about $10 high.
Oh, I didn't even notice that. Honestly, it doesn't bother me at all. He got a great deal, and now he's asking a fair price. (It could also be an old price from many years ago, who knows?) Maybe it is a little odd, but not enough for me to avoid it if I wanted it. I see coins all the time on Ebay and when I go research them, I find them in the Heritage archives. Sure, they may have paid a lower price for them, but if they are charging a fair price now, does it matter?
I don't mind anyone making a profit and the price isn't bad. I just wouldn't advertise how much I'm making. Lol.
If my dealer isn't in tears when I leave his shop then I didn't get a good deal. Offer this guy $12.00 and make him pay for shipping. Be. The. Warrior.
Good point. Imagine how much more you'll get for a generic coin if it's still in its 2x2 with the original "LESS THAN 3 PIZZAS" sticker...
One of the reasons I haven't begun collecting any US coins existing prior to IHCs is that I would always be on the lookout for a better specimen of any coin I have. I might feel differently if I had Jeff Bezos' money, but I don't. I would really dislike finding this 1853O at a coin show in better condition at a lower price. Given their age, this isn't likely, but...
He should have just added a “0” after the $16 and said it was a screaming deal! But in all seriousness, it really wouldn’t matter to me what the flip says. For example, if I received a Silver Eagle as a gift and it said FREE GIFT on the holder, would you all say it’s overpriced if I was selling it at spot? In general, it’s best to just evaluate the price based on the current market.
It’s not the price/profit that bothers me. It is the sheer laziness that does. If the seller is too lazy to change the flip, then how might that translate to the overall transaction? Will it just be taped to the inside of a stamped envelope? Etc.
