I have a question, are DIMES minted in the years of 1972, 1974, 1977, and 1978 supposed to have a mint mark? Even if minted in Philadelphia, aren't all dimes suppose to have the mint mark on it with the exception of 1965, 1966, 1967? Thanks!
Actually, all dimes from Philly had no mint marks until 1980, so those would all make sense not showing a mint mark. @ldhair
Alright thank you! I search around for the answer to this and couldn't get a straight confirmation so thank you ☺️ I knew y'all would know for sure! Have a great day!
I strongly, recommend buying a copy of "A Guidebook of United States Coins". Available on Amazon, bookstores, and sometimes even WalMart. This is loaded with all kinds of information about US coins, asic grading, mints, weights, compositions, etc. The pricing guide can be a little inaccurate, but you can easily determine if you have a better date, based on the values of other coins in that particular series. I guarantee that it will be the best $10-$15 you'll ever spend on the hobby. And I can say with a great deal of confidence, that just about every experienced collector of US coins on Coin Talk had a copy when they were beginners. Since I'm recommending it for the information and not specifically for absolute pricing info, if you have one of those places like Big Lots, Ollie's Bargain Outlet, etc nearby, you may be able to find an older edition for a few bucks.
The thing about 1965 1966 and 1967, is that NO US coins had mm's those years. The cent got the P for 2017 ONLY. Otherwise no P's on cents. Everything Finn said in post #2 is correct. Susan B Anthony got the P in 1979 all others (except cent) in 1980.
