I use to collect Roman coin before Eastern Roman coins, I still have these two coins that perplexed me because they are AE denarius not silver. I sold off my collection of Ancient Roman ladies but these two stayed with me because I was uncertain what I had, I did not want to add to the fake world. Can anyone tell me anything more about them? They look ancient but as we all know looks can be deceiving. Julia Maesa 2.4gm 17.78 mm Rev Felicity stg. l The other Faustina JR. 3.0gm 16.59mm Figure seated l. Lion at side?
Could be either so-called limes denarii, semi-official, or unofficial issues at the outskirts of the empire, or ancient forgeries with thin silver plating that wore off. Judging by the overall wear though, probably limes denarii. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/numiswiki/view.asp?key=limes denarius
