Hi I was going thru some loose change and took notice of a 1965 dime with a D mint mark. I believe that between 65-68(I think)there was no mint marks at all.Was wondering if anyone could enlighten me.
You would have the only known coin of any denomination with a "D" Mintmark. But you don't have that. Back then, mintmarks were hand-punched with a punch and a mallet into the die. From 1965-1967, in order to stop collectors from hoarding coins with certain mintmarks, the director of the Mint ordered coins to not have mintmarks put on; they didn't resume until 1968. It was also at this time that mintmarks were now to all be on the obverse. So, you do not have a 1965 with a "D" because no dies were punched with a mintmark. Or if you do, it is a cointerfeit.
Are you absolutely positive that the date is not a damaged 1968? Looks like it from here. Looks like the 8 took a bad hit making it look more like a 3.
