1947 nickel error

    Is this nickel worth anything? On the back right side of the building there is an s. I've never seen one like it before.

    I don't see anything special about your nickel although it is damage PMD (post mint damage).JMO

    Looks like a normal beat up 1947 s nickel. What do you see that is different about it?

    The "S" means it was made at the San Francisco mint.

    In that year of mintage, the mint marks were in the area that you see them. New mintages are on the front (not sure what year that started) and the War Nickel years (42-45) are on the top of the reverse. '42 was a split year also.
