Most likely it’s plated. Could also be struck on a blank made for a non-US coin (not sure if they were making any silver coins then). Also, and this is an ultra long shot, in 1976 they made 40% silver proofs. Again it’s most likely plated, but there is a .0000000001% chance it’s something else.

The 40% silver proofs were not in Lincoln cents.
    Quarters, halves and Ikes.

I know, that’s why I said ultra long shot. A roll of metal meant for those proofs would need to “accidentally” find its way to the cent punch, get made into blanks, the struck with no one noticing.

Well, then there would be dozens of these things, and none discovered in 40 years.

It's been plated. I have one that's gold plated.

Is it worth anything? Do you know anything else about it? I love it so I don't want to sell it but I still want to know if it's rare or not. Or important?

No it's not worth anything. When it is plated (usually a school science experiment)
that is considered post mint damage. But it's only 1 cent and it's still worth 1 cent.
Mine isn't worth anything but I am keeping it because it looks much better than that photo.

you can buy plated coins .. as many as you want. Check eBay, or MerrickMint.com or a dozen or more other companies out there. Silver plated, gold plated, other various plating options galore.

The US Mint did not do that.
