Those Morgans have circulated alot. If you like them, thats all that matters. As for grades, the 1878 looks to be AG3 and the 1887 looks VG8. Buying books and reading about the coins you want before you buy is a step in the right direction.

I agree you should buy the books before purchasing any more coins. I would suggest buying a copy of Photograde, which is enormously helpful in learning how to grade circulated coins; and the Red Book to get a rough idea of price differences between the grades.

The Redbook is actually the color red, and is in every major bookstore. Photograde might be harder to find, but has a wealth of information about many coin topics, plus it teaches you how to grade circulated coins using photos in the book. Both books are probably on amazon.com too.

If you want to save your money for coins, check the public library.

Yep. They're literally in "good" condition. ;) Not a bad start, but you can get uncirculated issues of the same coin for only a small amount more.

circulated morgans are still cool!:kewl: you can buy redbooks at about every bookstore. you can also find it at walmart for less than the bookstores charge.

Photograde covers more than the Redbook, which is basically only a current year price guide. Photograde will teach you how to judge the quality of coins. The Redbook will give you a general idea about what to pay.
