It depends on which program you have. On my computer, I can right click the image, then select Open Image for editing. Anyhow, that opens the image in microsoft paint on my computer. And then you can edit the picture there. If you make a box around the coin, then right click it, copy it, and then open a new window. Paste the image in the new window, then try to resize it. I cant tell you too much, I dont really resize my images. I take them with a digital camera and post them how they are. But I hope some of what Ive said prooves useful.

alot of scanners will allow you to crop the image prior to scanning using whats called a 'selection' tool.

once the imnage is scanned, any photo editing program will resize, got to start/programs/accessories and click Paint. this will open Microsoft Paint. Open the image inthis and you willbe able to resize it easily.

I love Photoshop, but MS Paint is a default application on all windows machines.

In my opinion, the best tool for resizing pictures is Adobe Fireworks. It is designed for web developers. You can resize an image to any physical size or number of pixels and save it in a variety of formats (GIF, JPG, BMP, etc). It also gives you control over the image quality so you can reduce the file size (e.g. for uploading to CoinTalk) without changing the displayed size of the image.

It also allows cropping, rescaling and rotating pictures and adding markings such as circles and arrows to point out features.
