You are the one who brought up the the proof montages in the first place by including the 2018-S Sheild Cents as the lowest minted cents in the series, or was it the 2017-S SP or the 2017-S DCam?

Since you like using lincolncents.net as a reference, which by the way in not a mint publication, try this link.

Scroll towards the bottom of the page for mintage numbers. As you will see there are several years where the mintages are a fraction of the 2018 and 2017 Lincolns you were referencing.

Fine by me but I don't think the OP knows what they are asking.

The OP also seems to think that the mintages of the 2017-S SP and 2017-S Proof Lincoln's should be combined. They are different issues and have separate mintages.

You could also make a case for the 1864 with the L on the ribbon proof - Mintage 24.

I’d like to submit the 1974-D Aluminum cent as the lowest mintage. Only one known so it’s atleast tied for lowest.

Then why when you google the lowest minted cent... it shows the 2017 s Lincoln? Yes, there are many other cents that are lower. Also, now they are claiming the 2018 s reverse beat out the 2017 s to be the lowest. Is it the lowest for the finishes? That I can see being the reason. The 2017 s was minted 225,000 in a satin finish and a cameo finish.. what was the break down? There is nothing anywhere stating what the numbers are for Cameo and satin... I’m boggled

I think what you are looking for is not what you are asking.

Your original question is asking about the lowest minted Cent, but you seem to be fixated on Lincolns, particularly 2017-S and 2018-S.

Neither of those come close to the smallest mintages unless you exclude proofs and other specialty issues.

You are looking for the smallest minted total for uncirculated Lincoln cents, which would leave your 2017-S as one of the lowest. One difference between the 1909 S VDB is it was intended for circulation, whereas the 2017-S Enhanced Lincoln Cent was created for the collectors. Both are identified as uncirculated, but the 2017-S was never meant to circulate in commerce.

I’m not sure which 2018-S you are referring to, but if you’re talking Cameo it would be a Proof. Comparing Proof mintages with uncirculated mintages is apples and oranges, although the 2017-S Enhanced is skirting the edge since like the Proof issues it is also meant for collectors.

When I google "lowest minted cent" the only thing that comes up mentioning the 2017-S is an article for NGC from Oct 2017 and it called the 2017-S with the special finish for the 225th anniversary set the lowest mintage LINCOLN cent, not the all time lowest mintage cent. And of course being written in 2017 they couldn't know about the 2018 S reverse proof.

Thank you for your great answer :) It helped shed some light. Now, if the 2017 s is the lowest due to not circulation.... than the 2018 s reverse beats that at just 200,000 minted not for circulation as well... Hmmmmmmm!

I believe the finishes on the vents matter too... 2017 s is the only Enhanced finish that I know of and the 2018 s reverse is the first of its kind for any cent....

    Thank you again :)
