Well I recently signed up on Coinbug, to buy and sell some coins.
Anyways, I know some of the sellers are members here from Cointalk, but I also noticed that there are some sellers, that are selling SUPER high priced items (over priced) and they have no feedback, they also show no pictures.

Is there a way the owner of coinbug can delete their accounts? It seems like some people are just messing around when they do that.

    Magman,

I was one of the first members on the site - found the link on CT by the way.

The owner of the site opened it as a way for his father to sell coins. I have bought from his father and been MORE than pleased.

I have spoken to the owner on the phone and via emails as well. I have also sold on CoinBug and to a few CT members.

We have discussed these things as I would LOVE to see the site grow. I have noticed the same things as you but really what can he do about it?

The owner of the site is not really a collector. However, he is always open to advice - really a nice guy. When I started he helped me design templates that would work on the site, include my ebay feedback etc. It's going to be another Caveat Emptor as most sites turn out to be but he IS watching and open to suggestion.

I see ultrra high grade coins listed with no pictures and no background on the seller. Why would anyone commit to that? I've also noticed these items sitting there for a long while.

There are a few of us that have managed to build up some feedback but remember it's hard on ANY site when you start off at zero.

PM me if you want and I can fill you in more - can probably get you in direct touch with the owner with his permission.

I too have a fair share of coins listed on coinbug and plan on listing more. And I have also talked to the owner of coinbug and agree with Clembo, he is a really nice guy. Ive bought off the owners father as well, and I too was very happy with the transaction. Basically, I agree with everything Clembo said. But Ive also bought off Clembo, and was very happy with that trasaction as well. But watch out for Phoenix, he accidently leaves bad feedback cause he clicks too fast. Anyhow, I love the idea of coinbug. I think theres alot of potential and it seems to grow alittle more, every day. Ive also sold a fair share of coins on the site as well.

    Necessary Evil.

If you can put things up for sale and it doesn't cost you anything, what DO you expect?

And the posts in this thread, while making the site seem very folksy, are really condemning it!!! If I will be spending hours setting up auctions, I want a business-oriented site, not a father-son "feel-good" setup.

    Just my opinion.

Thanks everyone for taking a look at CoinBug.com.

Because I let folks list coins at no cost, there is a risk that not everyone will be reasonable. Most people are. Collectors that want to and do sell their coins are reasonable.

I certainly don't want anything on there that is way out of line, so if you see something, please send me a private message and I'll talk to the seller about their listing.

    Thanks,

    Jerry Woodlock

The items are only overpriced if no one buys them. There's no rule saying the asking price has to be Redbook or less or anything like that. It's just like anything else collectible, if you educate yourself on what you're buying you won't unknowingly overpay. It's a bad idea to try & police pricing IMO.

I've made one purchase through Coin Bug & was very happy with the results.

    Hi Jerry,
Thank you for making such a site and thank you for allowing us to list our own coins on the site as well. It is most deffinately a privelidge to be able to list our coins. A privelidge that I wouldnt want to mess up. But as far as people overpricing coins, I dont think thats a problem. I dont think it hurts the site and theres only a very few listings like that. Most of the listings on the site are reasonably priced and priced to sell. Most buyers will just overlook the listings that are reddiculous. And if you did try to crack down on such listings, I dont think it would make any difference, someone else will take their place, if not the same person with a different name. And everyone realizes that theres people like that, so I dont think it would make anyone think less of the site, if a handfull of people try to overprice so drastically. But, I think if the buyer wants a coin, but thinks its overpriced, they can always make the seller an offer. And if the sellers wants more for the coin than the buyer is willing to pay, move on.
Anyhow, Id like to thank you again for such a great site. I listed more coins yesterday and plan on listing a few more today.

Sorry to hear that you feel that way Pocket Change but remember ebay was once an infant too.

Now they are a monster and scamming is rampant but it brings those fees in so they can afford TV ads etc. I can actually remember when it was easy to get in touch with them as well. Don't really waste much time there now.

Call it foksy or whatever you please but I see this site growing beyond what Jerry imagined. I'm proud to say I was one of the first supporters

Hey all, dont get me wrong, its a great site!
Im just saying, there are some unknown sellers on there that make it look bad.

Eh, they dont make it look bad. It is expected to see such listings. And noone would look at a few bad listings and think any less of the site. Besides, whos to know wheter the sellers of the overpriced stuff are even collectors. It could be some kid that inherited a few coins and thinks they are worth a fortune. But I deff dont think that it makes the site look bad.

How about if a system were implemented where you could cast a demerit against an add, if you thought it to be unethical ?
If the add acrued "X" amount of demerits, it would be automatically removed.
Only one demerit could be cast by an IP, per add.
The seller would not be banned from putting adds up, but they would be less likely to put up absurd prices and such if they had to do it repeatedly.
This system would provide a nice self-policing element, IMO.
    :)

    Lol, funny Philly Dog. :D

It really is, and I think it's great. Has a lot of potential, and is growing rapidly. I like the concept where you can list items on it, first five don't cost you anything, and after that it isn't that expensive. Also, if you don't like a price, just email the seller and you guys can work it out. I think it started out with a great concept too. A son doing something for his dad. Never know, might turn out to be one of the biggest coin selling sites out there one day. BTW, great to see you here Jerry, hope you stick around, and tell your dad about us too. Love to have him also.

Yeah, there is one that is even a member here on cointalk, goes by the name here DJP7x0s, who doesn't get off a guys back when this certain guy accidently pushes neutral instead of positive, and leaves him a neautral response by accident. Even though the guy has said he's sorry over and over and over again. :D Just heard this all from a friend. :D

Hi, reviving a 3-month-old thread I know, but I am considering trying out coinbug.com for selling some coins in addition to ebay (or as a replacement if it works out well). I had a couple of questions though:

Is there any way to see sale history? I don't see that option anywhere, to see what has sold recently for how much. I'm also curious about the average turnaround time, how often items are selling, etc. For those of you who have used coinbug.com, did you see sufficient interest to make a sale in a reasonable length of time?

I don't think you can dig into sale history. As for turnaround it's not an auction site. Might go fast may sit for months.
I have been listing a few more as of late. I generally list things I have multiples of and can put up at a fair price until the right buyer comes along.

If you want quick turnaround go for ebay and the fees. If it's not a hurry try Coinbug. It is tough to get started though as with any site. People don't know you.

I was lucky enough to have people from CT drop by and recognize my name. I did sell a coin last week that had been sitting for months. Buyer was happy and it cost me nothing.
