I have just recently started the adventure of learning capped bust coinage. I wanted to try my hand at attributing a few examples I currently have as I learn. The half dime series really intrigues me and I think I'll be investing more time into learning those moving forward. Seems like a great challenge and a lot of fun!

I think I have an 1834 LM-2 Half Dime and an 1831 O-108 Half Dollar. Am I right? I'd also like to welcome all thoughts and opinions on grade, cleaned, etc. Trying to learn as much as possible.

    Thanks!

I like em both. They both look like they could have been cleaned, the dime looks like is has some fine marks on the obverse and the shiny spot in from of the bust on the obverse makes me thing an old dipping but could just be the picutres. No expert myself. And having said that I will still say I like them both. The half would definitely look nice in my album. Two nice coins.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Both of them have been cleaned, but both of them were a long time ago. I feel like the half has retoned to the point where it would be market acceptable; the hairlines on the dime probably knock it into details for me. I do like the half dollar.

Before we give our opinions of the grades, what do you think they grade?

I think somewhere like VF-20 or 25 for the half dime and VF-30 for the half dollar.

Nice coins! Here’s my LM-2. I find the business to the left of/below Liberty’s face and chin interesting on this variety.

You can really see it on MS examples (photo courtesy PCGS CoinFacts) : A061F6B0-AEF1-4818-8E74-C09C27E0FD9E.jpeg

Anyone know what caused that on this variety? @Paddy54
