About 10 years ago I bought a group of coins or tokens that appear to be from Mughal India, all of which have a zodiac design on the obverse. The dealer I bought them from knew as little about them as I did but they seemed inexpensive at $10 each so I got them. They all weigh closely to 10.8 gm each, & the 1st one pictured measures 23 mm & the 2nd one 21 mm. Any info on these would be appreciated, like age or value. Mughal Zodiac pictorial types were issued by Jahangir between 1027 and 1034 AH (1617-1624 AD), and exist in both silver rupees and gold mohurs. The originals are all quite scarce and highly sought-after and expensive. There have also been many later imitations, worth much less. I am not a specialist in this series, so I can't say whether you have originals or copies. The reverse of the first coin (Aries with head facing back) reads "Yafat dar Agrah rui zar ziyur/ az Jahangir Shah Shah Akbar" (The face of gold received ornaments at Agra, from Jahangir Shah [son of] Shah Akbar) and has a date of 1028 AH (1618 AD). The reference to gold makes me think this is actually a later, silver copy of a gold original coin. Hopefully an expert will come along soon with more facts.

Unfortunately replicas. The legends are mis-shapen and some design details are missing, for example the sun's rays are shown, but the actual sun in relief is missing.

Numismat, thanks for the info. As replicas do these tokens have any collector value?

Hard to tell if they are recent or vintage copies. If vintage then they will likely have some value. The first two look like they may be older copies, but the others look more modern. If they all came together I'd guess modern.
