1942 wheat penny

    I feel as the star on the front means the coin has been tampered with, however, the reverse side has be questioning this coin. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

    That is called a Counterstamp or Counterpunch.. What you see on the reverse is caused by the pressure forced onto the obverse. Damage.

    The coin has been damaged. Rendering a .03-.05 cent coin to a .01 cent coin.
    IDK what is on that reverse right wheat stalk, but it's also probably damaged.

    The reverse side is the result of the counter stamp on the front. It was resting on some surface that made it flattened with some texture.
