Send the seller a photo of the spade as received before leaving feedback. He may voluntarily refund your money and tell you to keep it; he could also tell you to keep it and send you another or he could refund your money and send you a nice gift coin. All of those have happened to me in the past. You have a complaint about the piece as it was delivered. Don't assume that he will not make it good for you. If he doesn't then you will have a separate valid complaint which you can report.
The foot was literally bent to the breaking point within the package. It bent pretty far without breaking, so I’d say that there was no previous breakage at that position. Plus, the metal was freshly exposed with no glue, which is not what I would expect to see for a spade that had already been broken and repaired.
I found that the coin looked pretty ugly with the naked repair, so I covered it up as realistically as I dared.
I know absolutely nothing about these so please consider this the picture of a novice opinion, but I wouldn't have known nor guessed there was any damage.
Maybe it is just me , but if you look at the first picture( top of page 2 ) you supplied in the bottom right hand side there looks like there are 2 small holes or the beginning of a crack. I noticed the #2 picture looked gook but take another close look at the first picture and see if you can see what I am talking about. It may be nothing , but it still looks like there is something there. The pictures at the top of page 2 are the ones I am talking about unless these are pics of another item. There is also a line from the outer edge that looks like it leads to the area that broke. Dillan
There is no bend in the seller’s picture, and there is a bend when I got it. The bend happened during shipment because it was not properly packed. End of story, regardless of whether or not there was tiny crack at the edge to begin with
It surely was not packaged in the way it should have been. I sold coins for several years and know by the looks of the packaging that that was the biggest problem as mentioned earlier. I would have double boxed the item after wrapping in bubble wrap . Heavy stiff cardboard may have stopped it from being crushed in transit. My opinion is that if I was the seller, I would offer an exchange or refund . What I used to do, if a customer was not pleased for some reason, I refunded immediately and told them to keep the item as a gift on me. So sorry that your beautiful spade coin was broken in transit. Your repair job looks fantastic , lots better then I could do . I would have been quite upset if I had this happen to me , especially with the poor packaging that it arrived in. Good luck on your next transaction . Dillan
UPDATE! I have worked things out with the seller. To make up for the broken spade, I was able to buy these at a good price.
