I remember that when I started collecting, 1 year ago, I saw a new thread here of a beautiful Peruvian gold Coin with an incredible design. After that, I wanted to add one to my collection and became obsessed with this Coin and its' design of the radiant sun. Later, at the beginning of this year, I had the opportunity to bid on one at Stack's Bowers Auction, but I could't get it because I spent most of my budget on another Coin I was obsessed with. After the Auction, I was very happy with my new addition, but worried for not getting the Peruvian Coin. I was thinking when will I find one again in nice condition. A month later, I met some good friends who told me about the Lissner Collection and the Peruvian Coins that were offered at that Auction. I saw the Lissner Catalog, and the great condition of the Coins. That day, I said to myself that one day I hope to add one of those Coins to my Collection. This month, almost one year later, I had the opportunity of getting not only the Coin I have mentioned before, but another one with that sun design I really wanted. I didn't pass this opportunity and added to my collection this two beautiful Coins from the Lissner Collection: - 1838 1/2 Escudo South-Peru MS-66 Lissner Collection - 1838 1 Escudo South-Peru MS-64 Lissner Collection
Those are beautiful coins! The silver coinage is very nice too. The history of the very short-lived (1836-1839) Republica Sud-Peruana as part of the Peruvian-Bolivian Confederation is quite interesting.
True the history of the Confederation is very interesting, there is a video of the history of it in youtube, but it is in Spanish.
Ansamilos, another type you may find interesting is the coinage for the Estado Nor-Peruano (North Peru). This brief political entity was the third partner in the Confederacion, together with South Peru and Bolivia. I have been looking for the least expensive gold type for North Peru which is the 1/2 escudo 1838. No luck so far. Silver for North Peru is plentiful, specifically the 8 Reales. The 1 real North Peru, on the other hand is very rare, with probably less than 8-10 examples known today (I was lucky to have found two examples).
Very nice. I have a particular gold coin on my wishlist but it seems like every time I see one reasonably priced it is at a time that it isn't in my budget.
Excellent coins Victor, the Lissner examples were the finest known The 8 Escudos from South Peru is on my hit list, I also want the North Peru ones. John
