Hadn't been to this shop in probably a year. I loaded up on raw material. His prices were outstanding, and I was able to Cherrypick a couple reeeeealy nice varieties for cheap. You won't believe this, but I got JUST THESE FIVE COINS for a whopping $250!
Man would I love to hang out with you. We'd sure have fun cherrypicking some shops and shows. LOL Nice job!!
Yup... and here's yet another excellent example of how shop dealers should always be avoided and never trusted.
I'm being sarcastic. You'll find an awful lot of folks under the impression that shop dealers are worthless ripoffs with no redeeming qualities when the fact is they can sometimes be profitable sources of decent to good material. Not all, of course, but one can actually make a modest living buying from the right shops and reselling online.
It would cost me a lot more than $2100 to buy it all, I think. I wouldn't be able to spot all those varieties myself, so I'd have to pay someone else who'd already done it. Knowledge pays.
Depending on how you look at things, it's not now many checks it takes to buy, but how many checks you can turn them into upon selling. Like Jeff said: knowledge pays.
C.B.D is definitely, 'The Man" ! Very nice assembly. The 1847 seems to be the N-31, Large 7 over small 7. The half dime is beautiful. C.B.D, have to ask: have you ever cherry-picked an 1858/7? would love to see it if you have.
Letting go is the hard part of being a dealer. But once you let a few choice pieces go and make tons of money, it become much easier. The coolest part about being a dealer is briefly owning some pretty cool stuff that you would otherwise not be able to keep. And it all pays for stuff you do want to keep (Or pays for school...). It just takes so much time, though...
