My feelings, FWIW, what would it hurt? You have no grudge, really, nor evidence, for that matter, just a few opinions. If it is fake, he might not be the guy that did it. He might not even be aware of it. Approach him in the spirit of, "I thought you might want to know, as the seller, what issues I have with this coin." Something along those lines. If he bites back, some people are overly defensive, and jump the gun, and mischaracterize other peoples' intentions. That's not your fault, it's his fault, he's a dope. He takes it on the chin like that, the heck with him. OTOH, he takes it in the right spirit, and you might even find yourself negotiating on a slick counterfeit '31-S. Look, good luck.
I need to find some of your sources. The current gray sheet for good is $102. The cheapest I found on eBay was $86 (with shipping).
there was one for sale for $70 at my dealer sunday. i'm guessing it was in G-VG condition. should have bought it i guess?
Some 31-S's will have a CCW rotation to mm, others a CW, all are super close to the 9, but the OP mm coin has a shape that does not exist on a genuine, the middle bar connecting the top and bottom is never that fat, these are 2 genuines of mine, 1 of each rotation for comparison.....I had a 3rd style but just shipped it yesterday...
pass on that, something looks horribly wrong with it, and not in a damaged way, but in a may be possibly counterfeit way
No go don't touch em. Even if mistakes are made with coins, they don't hold value like a error on a baseball card. Although that fad tanked too. Damn, what am i gonna do with them all now?
